Sadly the chosen reporter can apparently neither read nor write thus placing your Leader in the invidious position of having to compile a Match Report despite not being present to view the proceedings. So based entirely on heresay and the scorebook the following is alleged to have taken place.
Winning the toss The Philanderers took first innings in this encounter and seemingly strode imperiously to what is quite probably the club’s highest ever score in a 20/20 match when concluding the innings at 200 for 4 wickets. This sizeable total was based to a very large degree on Rob Gill’s second century of the season, 111 not out to be precise with just the eight sixes, with Paul Leary and Chris Rogers chipping in with 27 & 33 respectively.
Doubtless the lads took the field for Coton’s response in good heart but regretfully this would prove to be a false premiss. The host’s innings seems, according to the scorebook, to have raced along at an even faster rate than ours and contained their own centurian although I’ve heard dark mutterings that he was out LBW 4th ball but not given by his umpiring best mate. Looking at the bowling figures it’s probably best I keep them a secret although I cannot but record that Coton reached 202 for 2 wickets before the twentieth over was reached.
So our first visit to Coton ended in an 8 wicket defeat, only our second of the season, but was an unusual game in that both teams scored two hundred runs.
