The great news about being asked to write the match report for Chippenham every year is the game can be relied upon to follow a pretty set script…
As usual the game was played on a glorious spring day, with Chippenham Park looking resplendent in the bright sun. As usual too, when the clock struck six to signal 20 overs remaining, the home side were trying to bat out for the draw, [5] wickets in hand.
[Wickets 6 to 9 fell in unusually quick fashion, with wickets for Coteman, Parness and Talha, two falling to highly enjoyable slip catches from Ragnauth, who seemed to be greatly enjoying his new glasses prescription]]
With [12] overs remaining Davidson was bought back into the attack to try and break through the final pair. This year, he was unsuccessful, resulting in a draw Philanderers win by [200 runs] as Chippenham finished on [64-all out].
Earlier in the day The Philanderers had set an imposing [264-4] declared thanks to a classy [123no from Mel Ragnauth and a slightly less classy 92 from Rob Gill*].
Overall, a highly enjoyable day out - thanks to our three guests, Pardess, Omair and Talha for stepping in, and we look forward to seeing them again this season.
* Gill having arrived directly from a stag do in Manchester declaring “I switched to Hard seltzer at 3am for the hydration” you knew it felt like a day for Gill runs.
